The 11th International Workshop on Regional, Urban, and Spatial Economics in China

 

June14-15, 2024, Nanjing, China

 

 

National School of Development and Policy at Southeast University, and School of Economics and Management of Southeast University, together with Growth and change and Journal of Regional Science are pleased to announce that we are organizing the 11th International Workshop on Regional, Urban and Spatial Economics in China at Southeast University, Nanjing, China during June14-15, 2024.

1. Shihe Fu

 

Dr.Fu is a professor of economics at Wuhan University, specializing in urban and labor economics. His research interests include regional and real estate economics, environmental economics, applied econometrics and economic growth of China. He received a Ph.D. from Boston College and a Master from Nankai Institute of Economics, both in economics. Professor Fu has published over 20 peer-reviewed journal papers. He led a key project of the National Social Science Fund in 2007, and led a general project of the National Science Fund in 2017. He is also a forensic expert in environmental pollution damage during 2019-2024.
 
2. Dávid Krisztián Nagy
 


Dr. Dávid Krisztián Nagy is a Senior Researcher at Centre de Recercaen Economia International (CREI), an Adjunct Professor at University at Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and an Affiliated Professor at the Barcelona School of Economics (BSE). He obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University in 2016. His research focuses on international trade and economic geography, aims at developing quantitative structural tools and combining them with data to examine the drivers of the spatial distribution of economic activity. He has won the Robert E. Lucas Jr. Prize for his paper The geography of development (joint with Klaus Desmet and Esteban Rossi-Hansberg).He also serves as a Co-Editor of the Regional Science and Urban Economics.
 
3. Mark Partridge
 
Dr. Mark Partridge is the C. William Swank Chair of Rural-Urban Policy at The Ohio State University and a Professor in the AED Economics Department. He is also an economic consultant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago; Adjunct Professor at Jinan University, Guangzhou China; and Gran Sasso Science Institute, LAquila, Italy. Prior, he was the Canada Research Chair in the New Rural Economy at the University of Saskatchewan. Professor Partridge has published over 125 peer-reviewed journal papers. His work has been ranked number one in regional science and among the top-1000 economist.
4. Junfu Zhang
Dr.Zhang is a professor of economics at Clark University, specializing in urban and regional economics. His research interests include urbanization in China, regional development, entrepreneurship and job creation, high-tech industrial clusters, and racial housing segregation. He received a B.A. from Renmin University of China and a Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University, both in economics. He was a dissertation fellow at the Brookings Institution during 2000-2001. Before joining Clark University in 2006, He worked as a research fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California. He served as the president of the Chinese Economists Society (CES) from 2019-2020. He has been an IZA research fellow since 2007.
 

 

Paper Submission and Registration

Following the tradition of previous highly successful workshops to date, we aim to continue to attract high-quality research output, further increase the academic visibility of regional, urban, and spatial issues in the world and particularly in China, and reinforce the research network for top level China-focused scholars from across the globe. We welcome submissions on the following themes:

Ø Environment, energy, and sustainable development

Ø Firm and household location decisions

Ø Land use and land-use policy

Ø Regional growth and development

Ø Transportation and Urban Development

Ø Urban governance and its optimization, including community governance

Ø Urban growth, dynamics, and transformation

Ø Urban network and spatial interdependencies

Ø Urban and regional policy evaluation

Ø Urbanization and migration

Ø Urban Amenity and Sustainable City

Ø Spatial Structure and Urban Innovation

Ø Land Use Regulation and Welfare

Ø High-quality Public Service and Urban Governance

Ø Cities and Environment

Ø Housing Issues: Supply, Demand, Prices, Affordability, and Policies

Ø Any other topics on regional, urban and spatial issues in China

For those who are interested in presenting a paper in the workshop, please submit in English a draft paper or an extended abstract (roughly 200-500 words, identifying the research question clearly and presenting basic results) through email to ruse2024@163.com, mentioning “paper submission for RUSE2024” in the subject headline of the email. For the convenience of organization, please include your detailed contact information (name, affiliation, phone number, as well as email address) in your submission.

 

The submission deadline is May 1st, 2024. Notification of acceptance will be sent out by May10th, 2024 and a complete paper in English is due on June 1st, 2024.

 

There is no registration fee for attending the conference. Participants only need to pay their own cost of accommodation and transportation.
